A Little Anecdote

One of the things I found very interesting which I still remember to this day was watching my Grandmother weaving a carpet back in the early 70's, and as I was watching her, I asked her what purpose the wefts were providing in the creation of her rug. She answered by bringing me a broom and said, "Moraad Joon, it's the tight strings tied around the middle of the straw in this broom that makes the sweeping part fan out or puff out.....that's what the wefts are dong to each knot...and also securing each row, as well as providing a foundation for the side chords.."
